The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) is responsible for the regulation of the legislation, and issuing guidance on it. ![]() Fairness, transparency, accuracy, security, data minimisation and respect for the rights of the individual whose data a business wants to process – these are all things that businesses should already be doing with data. Many of the fundamentals remain the same. But it is not a total revolution - GDPR is building on foundations which have already been in place for the last 20 years. It creates an onus on companies to understand the risks that they create for others, and to ensure they are mitigating those risks. It demands more of organisations in terms of accountability for their use of personal data, and adds to the existing rights of individuals. On, there will be new data protection legislation in force, both in the UK and across the EU - the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
